What people use these for

The common jobs: a new pair of headphones that sounds wrong on one side, a home cinema where the rear channels may be swapped, a laptop microphone nobody on the call can hear, a subwoofer that sounds loud but not deep, and a suspicion that your own high frequency hearing is not what it used to be. Each of those is a different tool below, and each takes a couple of minutes.

How to choose

For hardware, work outward from the smallest thing. The speaker test and the headphone test confirm that left is left, right is right, and that the drivers are wired in phase. The subwoofer test covers the range below 200 Hz where a phase or placement problem is usually hiding. The surround sound test walks a 5.1 or 7.1 layout one channel at a time, and the microphone test checks the input side.

For your ears, the hearing test is the careful route: it steps through frequencies from 125 Hz to 20 kHz, can find a threshold per ear, and draws an audiogram you can keep. The hearing age test is the two minute version of the same idea. Before you trust the result

None of this is a medical measurement. Browser audio has no calibrated output level, laptop speakers roll off long before 20 Hz, and phone microphones apply gain control and noise suppression you cannot fully switch off. Treat every result as a comparison between two moments or two devices rather than an absolute figure, and see an audiologist for anything that matters.
