Water eject plays a 165 Hz burst pattern that shakes droplets out of a speaker grille. This get water out of phone speaker tool, also called a fix my speaker sound or a water removal tone, is the same idea a smartwatch water lock uses: a low tone moves the membrane far enough to push water back out.
This works best on phone and tablet speakers, which are small and sit right behind a grille. Large speakers move water much less.
The low tone makes the speaker membrane move a long way, and that movement pushes trapped droplets out. It is a mechanical nudge, not magic: there is no guarantee it clears every drop, and it cannot undo water damage inside a device.
How to use it
- Take headphones and earbuds off first. This tone is loud by design and belongs to a built-in speaker, never to something sitting in or on your ear.
- Turn the device volume all the way up. The push that moves a droplet comes from how far the membrane travels, and that depends directly on level.
- Hold the device with the speaker pointing down, so gravity works with the tone instead of against it. Over a towel is a good idea, because the water has to land somewhere.
- Press Eject water and let the full 30 seconds run. The tone plays in bursts of about a second with a short pause between them, because the repeated start and stop shakes water loose better than one continuous tone.
- Wipe the grille with a soft dry cloth when the cycle finishes, then run it again if the sound is still muffled. Two or three passes are normal and no more effective after that.
What you can use it for
After a splash in the kitchen or the bathroom. The most common case is a few drops in the earpiece or the bottom speaker grille, and that is exactly where this works best.
After swimming or rain with a water resistant phone. The phone survived; the speaker is just full of water and sounds like it is playing through a blanket until the water leaves.
When calls sound muffled but headphones are fine. That points at the speaker grille rather than the audio chain, which is the case this tone addresses.
On a tablet or a small Bluetooth speaker. Any small driver behind a grille responds to the same treatment, though the speaker has to be the one playing the tone.

Accuracy and limits
This is a mechanical nudge, not a repair. It moves water that is sitting in or behind the grille. It cannot remove water from inside the case, and it does nothing about corrosion or a board that has already been wet.
It works best on small speakers behind a tight grille, which is exactly what phones, tablets and watches have. Large speakers move much less air per unit of area at this frequency and hold water in places the membrane cannot reach.
Muffled sound is not always water. A blocked grille full of lint, a damaged driver or a software equalizer sound similar. If two or three passes and a dry night change nothing, the problem is probably not water.

Why 165 Hz?
It is low enough to move the membrane a long way, which is what pushes a droplet, and high enough that a small phone speaker still produces it efficiently. Much lower and a phone speaker barely moves air at all; much higher and the travel is too small to matter.
Is this safe for my speaker?
For a short run at normal maximum volume, yes. The device limits its own output, and 30 seconds is well inside what any speaker handles. What is not sensible is leaving it looping for a quarter of an hour, which only heats the voice coil.
Why does the tone stop and start?
Because a burst pattern shakes water loose better than a steady tone. Each start moves the membrane from rest, and it is that abrupt movement, repeated, that walks a droplet out of the grille.
It still sounds muffled. What now?
Give it a few hours somewhere dry and try again, since some water only works its way out slowly. If it is still dull the next day, suspect lint in the grille or a damaged driver, and have it looked at rather than running the tone again.
Does this work on a laptop or a Bluetooth speaker?
It can, as long as the wet speaker is the one playing the tone and it is small enough for the membrane to shift the water. A phone or a tablet is the ideal case. On a large cabinet speaker there is much less to be gained.
